She is a work in progress. Wiring nightmare, weak front axle, and needs to be stretched for 4-5 inches of more wheelbase. The red XJ in the background was my old one I sold to build this one.

The lift is a stock leaf in a spring over. It kind of rides like a tank, the plan is to toyota leafs in the rear to stretch the wheelbase and YJ leafs in the front for a little smother ride. Any advice?

I ran YJ stock height springs in SOA. By mounting the rear shackle hangers to a new 2x4 rectangle tube bumper that was welded to the rear frame, and by adding about 8" to the front frame horns I was able to reach 95" of wheelbase. I'm still assembling it though, so I can't tell you how well it works on the trail.

I am using stock toyota rear leafs, sprung over on all 4 corners of my cj5. One nice thing about them is that they have the same cp to eye on the short side as the stock cj springs but about 6 inches or so longer on the long end. I may be off by a few inches so I will measure mine and get back to you. I am using the rear springs from a '79-'83 toyota pick up. I am mounting my hangers all the way forward in the front and back which will only stretch me out about 5 inces or so from stock. I can also send you some picks of my toyota springs if you would like.

If you could send the specs that would be great. I have searched around and the feedback seems to always point to the Toyota leaf. The one question I have is nobody ever says if it is a 4x4 rear spring or a 2x4 rear spring.

    Nice rig Mike!

I got excited when I saw the Maple Leaf on the side, but I think the commute from Toronto to Yellowknife is not inconsiderable...

    Happy wheeling!

Nice looking rig. Great to see a fellow Cunuck on the forum here. What are the rest of you specs on this rig? Please don't butcher that thing up too much. I think I have just seen my fill of comp cutted extreme wheelbase stretched rigs. There are tasteful ways to get some wheelbase increase without comp cutting and axles mounted right at the froward and back edges of the wheelbase. Try some Toyota truck rear springs front and rear with only a few inches of axle repositioning. TJ flares are bigger and can be mounted with the rear wheel well opening all shifted to the rear. Tube fender fronts can hide a forward shifted axle as well. Of course this is all just my opinion on what would work and look cool. I think you will end up with a sweet rig there. It is your rig so do what pleases you. Have fun.

Thanks for the positive feedback avmechanic. The plan is to give it a slight wheelbase stretch, build a set of tube fenders which will tie in with the front bumper. I love the looks of the CJ and don't plan on cutting this thig up to much. As for the spec's they are as follows.

74 CJ5 304 with a T18a fourspeed. She has a dana 44 in the rear which is locked and a dana 30 front with disc brakes also locked. She is running 35x13.5 Krawlers which I think is why I keep going through u-joints and hubs. The plan is for a Dana 44 in the front just trying to locate the proper axle. Maybe a scout front end or a fullsize Chev 44 cut down to fit a WT front spec. Will most lilley just run spacer on the rear to bring it to WT width. Any advice would be welcome. Does anyone know what leafs to use from a Toyota? I know the year but do they have to come of of a 4x4?

They dont have to come from a 4x4 but I chose to go with them. The 2x4 leafs are a little too soft in my opinion but Im sure they will work.
