Finally decided I needed a new bumper and tire carrier. Most all of my ideas came from the builds on here. I also stole BKD's idea for mounting it to the frame. Here it is so far. Still waiting on the spindle from iron pig offroad, and I haven't decided what I want to do for tail lights? I also am un-decided if I should angle the ends of the bumper or leave it as is and box the ends. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Cut down, ends rounded, holes drilled. This was some tough steel

Angle cut the ends or leave them?

Looks good. That's basically how I did my recovery points and bolted them through the frame. I prefer the angled look of the rear bumper. And then I think I would cap the ends with a piece of steel. Keep up the good work.

Looks good. I agree and would angle the ends.

I like this design, I copied bkd as well, haven't gotten around to the tire carrier part though.

Let me throw in a few thoughts, I angled the ends at 45 degrees, but as I look at it more and more I'm thinking the angle should have been a little steeper. I ran the 3/4" thick piece of steel on the outside of the frame rails also. When I had my gas tank out I installed the bumper, torqued the bolts down and put some healthy tack welds on the large nuts and washers that are on the inside of the frame rails. That way when the gas tank is in there I don't have to fight any tools in there to hold the nuts when I take the bumper off and put it on, like when I build the tire carrier R)

I'm using 4x2 square tubing and noticed that rod sticking out from the bottom of the spare tire carrier spindle is only 3-1/2" long so I'm going to need to lengthen it in order for it to be welded at both the top and bottom of the 4x2.

...looks good. Ends are a matter of personal choice, I will say however that squared off gives you more "bite" room for a high lift jack......hasn't been a problem for me yet but always in the back of my mind

Squared ends will hit the rocks almost every time.

Put the highjack in the D-ring, it works fine.

    I say, angel it! ;)

Your bumper and mounts are looking good. I like the looks of angled ends. The angles allow more clearance from obstacles. I realize you already purchased the tire carrier spindle, but here is another option for people looking to do the same thing. http://www.atozfabrication.com/store/Tire-Carrier-Swingout-Heavy-Duty-Hinge-Kit.html
I like the design of this spindle and the heavy duty one is longer for taller bumpers. I'm planning on using this spindle for my bumper.

Made some progress. Bumper is about done. Just need to weld up a stop for the swingout and paint it. Swingout is taking some time, need a new blade for my chop saw.

Bumper and carrier done for now. Just need to paint the carrier. I plan to make some Jerry can mounts and make a rack to go above the tire. I need to come up with a secondary latch or pin to hold the carrier in case the de sta co latch pops open.

Nice job...I like the neoprene bumper on the bottom. I like the idea of the DE-STA-CO for the latch mechanism. I'm planning on using the same style for my carrier. What if you drill a hole through the clamp when it's closed and run a push-pull pin through the hole.

So it's finished for now. Added a cheap tractor light for backup, and bought some new shackles from a local vendor. The pull pin I bought from graingers is pretty nice, I set it up so it will hold the carrier open and closed. Next will be a cooler rack with Jerry can holders. Gonna make it removable so I don't have to tote it around all of the time.

    Looks great!

The below picture appears that the tail lights are shielded by the Jerry Cans. I'm curious if your gonna relocate your tail lights, or are you only using the Jerry cans for off road purposes?

If mentioned in your thread, sorry I missed it!

Thanks for the info, as I'm looking to do something very similar in the future, and am trying to sort out the tail light issue.
