I recently purchased a stainless brake line kit from Classic Tube. When I started to match up the labeled parts to the location they were supposed to go, I found that the "pre bent" parts are not event close to a shape that fits my application. I have checked the part numbers with them and everything is correct. Should I save the headache of sending the kit back and rework the lines?? Or, try a new set???:? I'm inclined to rework, but I thought I'd get an idea from you guys first.

JMO - you can buy a lot of pre-made brake lines for the cost of one of those kits. If you have the old lines, you can use them for patterns. IMO stainless isn't worth the money, since it's harder to work and plated steel will last 20 years anyway.

I doubt very much that a reorder would fit any better than the original order.

I'd suggest you get a good (read expensive) tubing bender, a few lengths of line from your FLAPS, and give it a try.

Another possible vendor is www.inlinetube.com They can sell you a kit to bend your own, or prebent. They also have the spring wrap for the outside of the tubing.

I have a good bender and a double flare tool.

Ever since starting this rebuild, I have been buying things that are high end because I have this perception that "exspensive=quality". I think I'm losing sight of common sense during the process. I have custom bent many lines for other people who needed to repair a section of line on their vehicles but never thought of buying bulk tubing and bending my own for this project. Thanks for the input.......:)

I gotta agree with Tim here, especially if you are use to bending lines already and have done several myself and wouldn't do it any other way. Some folks don't have the patience for it, but I have done several and never had any problems. I wouldn't do it any other way. BTW, stainless is a PITA, just thought that needed to be mentioned.:) :)

I just got done replacing all the rear brake lines from the proportioning valve back on my 79 and I used all pre-flared lines w/fittings from my FLAPS and bent everything by hand and they work great (they even look ok also). Just my .02 cents.

I have a HF bender and a KD 2157 both works great, seems like it the same bender as the Ridgid Bender you can get at Home Depot. A good double flaring tool is important, I use a KD 2190.

While expensive at $75-$100, with the 2190 I have yet to make a bad flare. I just re-did my entire brake lines and fuel lines with bulk tubing and fittings from Summit. Even with the expensive flare tool it was cheaper than the prebent kits.

BTW, I'm not recommending the site, it just had a good selection of tools.
