I am working on my new CJ6 project and it already had a SM420 installed. I noticed it the previous owner welded the drain plug hole shut and its leaking a bit. Whats the best way to fix this and get the drain plug back. Is the best way to just drill and tap?

I guess my question is why the previous owner welded up the hole? PO's are supposed to drill more holes. Is it somewhere that clearance or damage is a problem? If there is another location to drain, think I would try to patch the leak with JB Weld or other epoxy. If not you may have to drill the hole quite a bit larger than standard to get a clean area to tap the threads.

has it got a pto cover? if so you may get lucky and drain it thru one of those bolt holes, or weld a bung in the cover its self;)
