Would be nice to know the final specifics on this project but it probably wont be too hard to figure out as long as the flaps knows what I am asking for on the fan contoller.......... As soon as I get my alternantor installed this will be the next project!!!! Just hope its enough fan for the 304!!!

How much clearance do you have between the fans and crank/water pump pulleys? With my electric fans i have about 1/2 inch, but i am in need of more airflow.

I haven't started the electric fan upgrade yet so I dont have any measurements. But.......from the looks of it I will have just enough room between the fan pully and the electric fan. for everything to work. I will post pics when I get on it.

I got the fan installed temporarily. After putting more than 3 1/2 gallons of antifreeze in and tightening the hose leaks it started to cool. I let it idle up to about 220 degrees and then turned the fans on. It pulled the temp down to 160 degrees and then I was finished for the night. Now just gotta get some wire, relay, and switch to complete the install. This could be the best upgrade I've done so far!!!

Looks good. Any worries about the starter relay holding up to constant duty? I've always used constant duty rated relays. Pretty much the same thing as a starter relay other than there built to stay on constant. Let me know how the starter relay holds up over time. If it holds up I might switch to them in future projects since they are cheaper.

Summitt has switchs that will turn on the fans at a certain temp and off at a certain temp. They are around 20 dollars. I used a 4.0 thermostat housing since it has a place to screw the switch in. Wiring is easy. Switch which provides power to the relay. The ground for the relay goes through the switch. The temp switch provides the ground for the relay

Well, I got everything wired up last night. I used a fan controller switch that advanced sells for their electric fans, supposed to be on at 185 and off at
    165. I also wired it so that I could have manual control as well. The radiator fan came from the junkyard with a temp switch mounted in it already but was corroded beyond recognition so I bought a factory one from advanced for future use. So, all I have to do is run the engine up to temp to see if I have automatic temp control and then call it good! I had to pull the manifold off and fix some leaks so all should be good there! Looking like a good upgrade!!!! and easy one at that!!!

Howdy, nice looking setups, fits quite well. I am curious if you could split the wiring and control one fan at a time? It would lower the current draw in mild cooling situations. Might use a switch/relay on each leg to have a backup instead of all or nothing. Maybe one auto and one manual override. Or maybe I worry too much.

This is common on later cars with A/C, one fan defaults on when you turn the A/C on.

The switch is nothing more than a brass probe that is stuck in between the radiator fins and is preset to come on at 210 and off at 185. I messed up in an earlier one when I said on at 185 and off at 165. Tested it yesterday and it works like a champ! I have the ability to leave it in the auto position, manual on position or completely off!!!

I thought about splitting them as well but was in a rush to get things wired up an tested. I'm sure it wouldn't be too big a deal to make em seperate. But, it's working so well I don't want to mess with it anymore. This has to be the best mod so far!!!! I'll get more pics in the morning............
