Down at Oley, we picked up my next project. It is a 1950 Indian Scout model 250. It even has a title!!! :) I'm going to make it into a bobber. We have one that is all original, so I don't want to restore it. It at least has all the hard to find pieces. This is going to be a much harder compared to my jeep because parts for verticals are hard to get. :( If it was a chief, four or full sized scout, it would be a breeze. It turns over and has good compression and the brakes even work! Looks like now, I'll need to get my motorcycle license.

I'm thinking about painting the frame flat black and the fenders and tank the same red as my jeep.

Friend of mine did an around the world trip on a '47 Indian Chief a couple of years ago. He used to have a '27 or '28 Indian Scout that he rode around on. Last year he did the around the world trip again, this time on a hardtail Panhead chopper (his trip was cronicled in "The Horse, Backstreet Choppers" magazine). Now he has a Euro-Middle East trip in the works, this time on a '70's Shovelhead chopper.
I'm also a bike guy. So was the whole family. Got pics somewhere of my grandfather sitting on his 1917 (or 1918) Indian sidecar rig & some of my dad's '48 Indian Chief. Here is a pic of my $800 Suzuki Marauder bobber (another friend crashed it at Maggie Valley / Deal's Gap & I purchased it for the insurance salvage fee, had it back on the road within 24 hours, bobbed it a year later):

Very neat! Sounds like your family has motorcycle history too!

See that maroon bike in the BG of my last pic? That was actually my great grandfather's who worked at Indian. It was the 13th one produced. I'm the fourth generation to ride it. Still runs like a champ. It is called and Arrow model 149 (single vertical cyl.) My gg was nut. He rode that thing year round. We have this picture of him on it with the skis (an accessory), a windshield and snow tire in the middle of the winter.

I love the older bikes, I started out on a Bonanza mini-bike then moved on to dirt & trials bikes (love old Bultaco Sherpa T's), but my favorite bike when I was a youngster (back in the 60's) was an old Famous James (similar to a 50's Harley 165 Hummer) that someone abandoned at my grandfather's service station that he gave to me to fix up. I have owned a heck of a lot more motorcycles over the years than I have Jeeps or 4x4's. Pretty sure I'll never give up two wheeling, long as I'm breathing. But that goes for Jeeping as well.
If you're ever down this way (Alabama), plan to stop in at the Barber Motorsports Park outside Birmingham, AL (in Leeds, AL actually) and visit the motorcycle museum they have there, really cool place. http://barbermotorsports.com/museum.php

I'll be sure to check it out!

I pulled the head and jugs off today when I got home from school. My dad conveniently walks in just as I am about to pull the head off. Sure, let me do the hard part! R) We found out that the engine was rebuilt once (bored .010 thousands) and everything looks pretty good. No abnormal wear and tear. [IMG]

All that is left now is half an engine in the frame.

My fire has really been lit to get it finished now after we got this one running good with some parts from mine. Supposedly, as family legend has it, this was Rogers bike, the third owner of Indian. It sounds awesome!
