In my 73 when I pull the hazard knob the parking lights come on but don't flash. When i flip the sparton turn signal lever nothing happens. Are these issues related?

my first thought is you simply need a new flasher.

if its like mine there is a spot on the bottom of the dash, right on the back. should be able to run your hand under the bottom edge and feel it. should be 2 of em. they only cost 2-3 bucks each, so even if you dont need one its a cheap thing to check.

Are you using normal bulbs or LEDS?

LEDS do not provide enough of a load to activate the flasher with out a load resister in place.

If normal bulbs then its probably the flasher units.

Did you find the problem for your turn signals? I am having almost the exact same problem with my '73 CJ5. Hazards flash but turn signal does not work.

I'm not sure what the "Flasher Unit" is.

If you still have the standard fusebox, then they are located in the fusebox.
They are the two round units on either side, and just plugs out.

The fusebox is located at the left against the firewall on the inside of the Jeep.
It should be mounted directly over the firewall connector.

Replace the two flasher units and take it from there.
    Hope it helps!

There's no fuse box on a '73. The wire routing is the same as a '72, shown here http://trailforge.com/TSM/Section_22.pdf - there may be minor differences in the harness from a '73, so don't take the colors and circuits too literally.

There are two relays, one each for the turn signals and the hazard lights. The originals are on a clip secured to the back side of the dash, close to the steering column.

The original relays are rectangular IIRC, and replacements don't fit in the clip. You'll need to figure out a way to secure them under the dash if they don't fit the clip. Don't leave them dangling - they can short out on other stuff under the dash (DAMHIK).

I thought all the intermediates wiring are the same.

No problem :coffee: :) - 1975 was the first year for a fuse block in CJs. Prior to that, they all had inline fuses.

With the painful wiring harness I do have a fuse block. I am still having an issue but will figure it out and post up when I get it fixed. It is good to see this thread addressing other issue. The POSH, Previous Owner Sh** H*** did a diservice to this vehicle with his wiring skill. I assume I will other problems in the future but I am tackling them one at a time.

I just installed LED taillights and I am now having this problem. Will an electronic flasher fix this, or what kind of load resistor would need to be installed to fix this issue?

Electronic flasher will work with LED's, they're not load dependent.

Got the problem fixed. It was a burned out turn signal bulb on the passenger side in the front. Doh!!:driving:
