Rotate the motor over so its on compression stroke on #1 cylinder. Take it to TDC, then take off distributor cap. Note position of rotor, and the tower its points to on the cap is #1. Best way to tell if; you forgot, replaced the dist, some one pulled all the wires off etc etc.

Thanks, yes I know how to do that, but just thought someone would remember if it was on top or bottom. I bought this jeep a week ago I think the wires are crossed. I tried to buy a TDC indicator and the parts guy said he never seen one..I guess he has never rebuilt any engines.

Um, this all depends on how the oil pump was clocked when it was installed.
The dist shaft will only fit in the end of the pump shaft 1 way.
As you know, find TDC on #1 cyl., look at the rotor, that should be close to where it should be to at least fire the motor...
A search here or on the Cj3B page will tell you how to install the oil pump so it is clocked right.

Its on the top (12 o' clock), then 1-3-4-2, counterclockwise. and I bought a TDC Indicator, to confirm this, it runs good now..
