Actualy not much hassle. You need to have a BOP bellhousing machined to fit the trans. I had a friend do it on his garage lathe for a 6 pack.

I'd go t-18. Smaller then SM465 and easier to work on. (465 you need a press to press on bushings onto new main shaft can be a PITA) And you need to turn down the front retainer or open up the bellhousing on the sm465 as well as the T-18 but it's not a big deal. Also you DON'T need two adapters for a T-18 like some one said. It's a great tranny FYI I've done the t-18 swap in my 3B with a :v6:, I've also done the SM465 swap with a :v6: in my current CJ6 project and I also have a SM420 w/ adapter and :v6: combo on my shop floor to compair. The SM420 is shorter, but has a huge bulge in the case on the pass. side so the adapter has to be about 5" long to make the transfer case clear it. Over all the combo. is longer. SM465 and T-18's both have a 1" adapter. Oh and there's no way you will brake any of the three! Good luck.

One of my Jeeps has the Muncie and I have this problem. I have found that a few 60's cars had an off-set shifter but they are really expensive if you can find one. I do not like this tranny at all. The ratio is way to close for me. I can start my Jeep in 4th gear.
