I have a 1967 Jeepster Commando with a Dana 27AF front axle. I am looking for some front axle parts, namely closed knuckle gaskets and seals, etc. I have found many listings for Dana 27 axles with OMIX part numbers. My question is are knuckle parts different on the Dana 27AF.

On a more general note, what are the major differences between the 27 and the 27AF. It appears to me that the 27AF used used in the heavier vehicles or with the V6. Does that mean parts are not interchangeable because the 27AF is built stronger?

Knuckle seal kits, etc. are all the same. In fact I don't know of any differences. Maybe someone else can explain the 'AF' designation.

    don't know about that...

but I did run across a set of D27 front axles from a Jeepster that were 3/8" longer on each outer shaft than CJ D27 axles
this was a side by side comparison
    why ?
beats me, I've never been able to figure that one out.
and the part numbers in the book are different between Jeepster and CJ as well.

That's interesting. I put a short side shaft from a 71 CJ5 in my Jeepster a few years ago. I missed the difference. Oh well, it's been working ever since.

I don't think fit and function were an issue...I should have stated that.
just the difference in length caught me off guard.
