transmission noise

    I recently rebuilt my1969 dana 18 transfer case and T86 3 speed transmission. Everything works fine EXCEPT the transmissiom makes a loud rattling noise when in nutral and the clutch pedal is let out. You can put it any gear and it dosent do it and drives in that gear fine. If I take the top cover off the transmission with it in nutral it won't do it. My gear orientation looked ok and the shift forks seem to be in the right slots. I didn't do anything to the top plate and forks?????????

    Clutch throwout bearing? Mine makes a lot of noise in neutral with the clutch out. it makes an intermittent clunking noise with a more consistent squeak that sounds like a loose belt.
