I understand the #1 cylinder at 9 degrees before top center (btc) is the spot where the valve is "just tight". .016 when the valve is closed. Question - once cylider #1 is set, what is next? How do I move on? is it a visual inspection on cylinder #2 then #3 and so on? any help would be appreciated.

Yes, I saw alot of posts where people are asking if they should. I have the service manual it explains how to set the #1 cyclinder and then basicallys says - "set the rest accordingly"

just make sure the cylinders are at top dead center
pull the spark plug and make sure the piston is coming up on compression
put your thumb over the hole
actually, the intakes you can do just visually when no pressure on the push rods
