Help!!!

    I have a 78 cj5 an have no idea what i have in it...can someone help me an let me know what trans an motor rearend front end an transfer case i'm suppose to have in it.. just starting out with jeeps if you cant tell...lol

    WOW!!!! Do you have any pictures? I will take a wild guess and say that you might have a 258ci inline six? t-176? Dana 300? AMC20? Dana30? :rofl:

    i don't have any pictures yet but i'll get some..it does have the inline six.. i just don't know about all the rest...

    This information is on the web if you look for it.

    The equipment in a '76 is basically the same as in a '78. The '76 factory manual is at www.oljeep.com - the manual will cover the drivetrain specs in detail.

    Engine - either a 232 or 258 cid AMC inline 6. You need the VIN or the engine build code to tell the difference, or look at the emissions sticker on the top of the grille. Covered in the manual.

    Transmission - 3 speed? T-150 built on license from Ford by Tremec.

    Dana 20 transfer case.

    Dana 30 open-knuckle front axle and AMC Corporate 20 rear axle. 3.54 ratio standard, 4.10 ratio optional. Look at the tag on the front axle for the ratios.

    A 78 can have a 4 speed. That would make it a T18. I think the T18's came behind the I6's.

    i ran the vin numbers on it an it said that it had a 304 v8 with a auto trans .... an it has an inline 6 now with a manual trans

    CJ5's never came with an automatic trans.
