The goal of the tension roll was to keep the cable on the drum from unwinding when the clutch is disengaged as well keep tension on the cable when it is pulled off the drum.

We used the springs out of these 2" spring clamps from Home Depot. They are all built the same so we didn't get a left and a right spring but we were able to make 2 springs of the same type work just fine.

I have learned that taking closeup pics of gloss black is kind of an iffy proposition!

[IMG], [IMG], [IMG], [IMG], [IMG], I have some work to do on the winch cable before I load it on the drum. I'll post some more pictures and let you know how the tension roll works!

Finally spooled the old cable back on the drum. Everything worked fine, we only had about 70' of cable and it seems like the tensioner is going to work like we had hoped. If the drum had 150' of cable I think it would be good and tight. [IMG], [IMG], [IMG]

Nice to see you jeepers keeping the old koeing winches alive. I'm installing one on my '71 and would love to see pics of the pto shaft and bearing set up.
    Thanks,
    Pete

I had a koeing on a my 1970 but did a freelance job on the drive shaft and bearing mount. So If yours is the stock set up I would still love to see it. I'm trying to go back to the stock exaust for hunting pourposes; And loved the pto winch for firewood.
No big hurry on the pics, its the winter project.
    Thanks,
    Pete
