About a month ago I changed out the old rear main seal. The new one leaked. So I redid it last week. After a couple of days it leaks. I realize that the parts makers are 'watching' there budgets, but two bad rear mains? At least I can keep returning them untill one seals.

On the installing the rear main: I used a chiness chop stick (bamboo), and RTV the bottom rear main like the directions said. I dont think it is my error but at this point Im not sure what to do.

    Any Ideas?

Are you sure it's the seal? If using the 1 piece gasket for the pan, try putting the gasket up first, using hi tac to hold it up. Rtv the 4 corners and rtv the pan also. I just went through this myself. Found the rear pan seal kept moving on me.

is there any wear groves were the seal rides? Any wear there will prevent the seal from "riding" on crank correctly.

How bad is the leak? In my oppinion these rope seals allways weep.

Should be a 2 piece seal. It is easy to put top seal in backwards.

I was just getting ready to say that most rear main seal complaints I see are user mis-install.

People forget to trim the seal ends, get them in backwards, don't use sealer on the ends, don't get the pan gasket sealed, ect.

One guy complained he did his TWICE, then finally admitted he 'Poked' it in with a screwdriver!...
