Are these things hard to come by? I found one in fair condition for $200, is that a fair price?

Need some help on this. Another question I have is how much higher do you sit with a bench seat vs. the original equip. low back bucket. From the forum searches I've done, it would appear the bench seat puts the driver in a different position (higher). I would like to get the bench seat for my ride, but I'm 6'4"' so I cannot afford a seat the sits any higher and puts my line of sight at the windshield frame. Any information would be appreciated.

Seats are essentially the same. Bolt in place in the same fashion, just wider.

Fair price is what you and the seller decide the item is worth. :)

I really don't know much about the sitting position of the bench seat. I can tell you the 60/40 seat is not common. You can't go buy one anyplace except if you find one like you did. As far as price, if I said it was a good deal would you buy it? If I said it was a bad deal would you pass? It really depends on what you want to spend on a bench seat. What it is worth to you? And remember, his market is fairly small. If you offered him $100 he might take it. His wife might be on his butt to get it out of the garage and he might be tring to sell it so he does not have to throw it away. Then again, he might think he has a "rare option" he can ebay for much more.

As far as the sitting position, you can do a lot if you have fab skills. You do not have to use the factory mounting system. You can weld up another mount that allows it ot sit lower. But remember, you have the tranny tunnel to contend with it. THe seat can only go so low before you have to start getting into that. Then again, you can notch the wheelwells and move it back a couple inches.

I'd say if you want it, get it and make it work. If you kinda want it, keep searching.

I swapped to the bench seat and I love it. It doesn't seem to sit any higher to me. $200 may be a bit high, but could be a good price unless the seats are really junk.

Condition really counts for seats, because it's expensive to have them recovered or rebuilt. If they are like new, they are more valuable and desirable. Any tears should bring the price down a lot. Make sure you are getting everything for that price - seats and brackets. Also, I expect the 60/40s from the bucket seat era (the ones I'm familiar with) are different from the 'early' seats, where the seat frame is all one unit with the seat mounting brackets.

The 60/40 was optional, as was the passenger bucket seat.

I've sat in both the 60/40s and buckets, and I think the buckets are more comfortable. The 60/40 does not have any bolsters, and you slide around on the seat. However, the 60/40 does allow you to sit 3 across in the front... crowded but possible.

There are two different bench seats as well. My cj-6 has a more plain version as compaired to my Tuxedo Park which has an adjustable (driver side) seat. The seats are shaped a little different as well. The Tux seats are more contoured and the 6 seats are flat, it that makes sense to anyone...
