Spring over doesn't make a whole lotta sense for a short wheel base narrow track Jeep. Some people love it for a easy lift, but it usually brings more problems then it fixes. For a all around driver that can go on street and trail its better to just whack off the perches and put em back on stock wise. That is a flat out steal for those axles with that list of parts. The axles alone are worth 3-400 without any of the extra parts. The last 30 narrow track open axle I had with disks and 5.38s sold for $600. Just the 5.38s,low gear carrier, and set-up kit cost $400 plus the labor to set it up. Ok I have now beat this horse enough.

Yes this horse is beat and I have some new axles! I like the spring under since I already have a 2.5 lift. Less stuff to go wrong, I can always change them back to SOA if i want.

Thank you to all for you help and welcoming me to this forum.

I'll send some pics when I'm done.

Chances are the old spring under perches are still on the axles. Should be a bolt in operation.

oh and I agree that $1k for those axles is a nice deal.

Just to make you feel better - a couple years ago I 'stole' a set of axles from a guy abandoning a build:
D30 NT, Disks, 4.88s, Detroit Locker, Warn Hubs
D44NT, Warn FF, 4.88s, 11" Drum, Detroit Locker, Warn Hubs

I was MORE than happy to give him the $1200 for those axles. On this one, I pulled the Detroits for OX lockers. One day install.

One more thing about 5.38's is that the pinion gear gets mighty small which affects gearset strength. Especially in a D30 with it's already small gears. As the OP orginally posted, his present R&P is busted. I venture to guess that it's a higher ratio than 5.38.
