Hi all I have a 74 CJ5 and cannot get the stock alternator to work, replaced with new rebuild and new regulator still no out put maybe 2 volts up to 4 with added throttle, i was told to replace with delco 1 wire, question what do i do with the other wires off the regulator? and how much trouble is it to make the change, the work i am not afraid of just how complicated is it?

    Moved to the tech section.

If you go with the 1 wire, you can omit/ delete/ remove all of the old regulator/ alternator wires. Just make yourself a nice (8ga is what I used) charge wire to run to the battery.

I'd go to the solenoid, where the pos. battery cable attaches to it, just to keep wires off of the battery terminals. I went to the solenoid on mine, but I have the V6 with the solenoid on the starter.

Volt meter, just run it off of the ign. switch.
You can use the original main power wire that runs into the Jeep for all your accessories, just tap off of the back of the alternator, or the solenoid where you put the charge wire.

I used one off of a CJ7 or something, I dont know, I was at work when it was picked up for me, the local O'reilly's jeep guy picked it out. But one thing with the one wires I learned (and you may already know this, but it took me two weeks to figure out) there is a plug on the back with a red and a white wire, you will have to buy. The white wire is the volt meter, and the red one you have to connect to the charge wire to complete a field.

That isn't a true one wire then. On the unit from Summit, the hole for that plug is, well, plugged off.

i used the delco 10si but i used the installation kit which gave me a exciter wire and a wire for my voltage reg. so correct not a true 1 wire but nonetheless it works!! also the original wires ran to the ignation then a amp meter then back to the battery so i disconnect that and ran a new wire to the ignition so that is where i will get my voltage connection from.
