I am rebuilding my motorcraft 2150 carb for the waggy. I got it all apart except for one jet does not want to come out and i am stripping the groove the scewdriver goes into. Is there anyway I can make a save to remove this? I do not want to add heat since it is a carb and gas was in there. It is soaking now in carb cleaner solution and i will take it out tomorrow to rebuild, but I am looknig for advice to get this jet out of the carb.

    Thanks

    Re: Reomving stuck Carb jets

I can tell you how I do it. May not work if the slot is already damaged.

I use a big square-shank screwdriver that fits the slot pretty well. I undercut the sides of the tip so that it fit squarely into the slot and sits flat in the bottom of the slot.

Then I screwed the carb body down to the workbench, with screws through the mounting holes. I used my screwdriver with a crescent wrench on the square shank of the screwdriver. With my right hand on top of the screwdriver, I put my weight pushing down to hold the driver in the slot. Then I turned the driver with the crescent wrench.

You can apply plenty of force with the wrench - the hard part is keeping the driver in the slot. Holley sells a tool for this, which I presume is a straight blade that fits the slot well.

IIRC, there is a special "jet screwdriver" for jets...

Mine were in my 2100 pretty damn tight. However, after dipping the carb, they came out with only a little grunting.

Have you tried any type of "liquid wrench" or breakfree?

Also, never underestimate the wisdom of an old fashioned carb shop. My local carb shop found about 10 mistakes in my mc2100 rebuild, and fixed a bunch of little nagging problems.

Two soft metals (Brass and aluminum) + a hardened steel toolend on the impact wrench? Somethings gonna give. It isnt going to be the toolend. Hopefully, it will be the jet, and not the threads...

If after soaking, heat, etc it does not come out, I would recommend a carb shop. Let THEM put a pair of vice grips on the jet and mess up the body of the carb or the jet threads...

The carb shop recommendation goes further than to just get a stuck jet out: A carb shop is a wealth of knowledge. Check out my page 2 "list of everything I didnt know I didnt know" in the "MC2100 database thread" in the CJ section of jeepsunlimited.com. I thought I knew what I was doing. I rebuilt the carb once using the best rebuild info I could find on the internet. Then I began to rebuild it again after a backfire lit it on fire internally. I would stop into the carb shop at various stages of the rebuild and let Omar check over my work. I listed all the things I messed up in the database thread THAT I REMEMBER. He was able to set the choke on the bench using an old manual and a vacuum pump.

You might get that jet out of there with a little more oomph. However, you mess up the main body, and you are going to be ****ed.

Impact driver, not impact wrench. Put it in the screw, push down while turning, very light tap wih a small hammer will give it more down pressure and a slight turn. For older motorcycles with phillps head screws in the side case they are a must. Aluminum screww into aluminum case, sometimes the on,ly way to get them out without tearing up the screw head.
