I have a 47 2A with the L-head 134. I have had an issue with it running bad for several months. The fuel tank is new, the pump is new, I've tried a new Solex as well as the Carter freshly rebuilt, Holley fuel pressure regulator, shimming the fuel pump out with spacers, cleaned rotor, points and new plugs. It will idle but whenever you try to move the accelerator, there is a flood of fuel going down the throat of the carb and choking the motor. I had it running before with no issues and then this thing popped-up. I even had it running ok yesterday when I ran it up and down the street and it started bucking like a bronco. Anybody got any idea what's going on?

I have a new fuel pump and was told not to use the spacer and have had no problems. Just a thought.

I checked my fuel pump after the regulator and had 2.5 psi. I adjusted the float on the Carter and still had a stream of fuel out the high speed nozzle. The Solex did the same thing. I don't know if it is ignition or what, but it won't run as it is now. i have a new solid state ignition from Walck's that I'll be putting in soon, but I was hoping to solve 1 problem before starting something new. I'm still at a loss though

When trying to start a vehicle that has been in storage or in your case sort out a fuel problem I swear by the use of a remote fuel tank. I use a 1 gallon plastic gas tank with a couple of feet of fuel line out the bottom. I put about a half a gallon of clean fresh fuel in the tank and connect the fuel line to the inlet of the carb. suspend the tank just above the top of the carb, this eliminates fuel tank, filter and fuel pump. If the carb still floods you have a carb problem. If it runs ok hook the tank up to the fuel pump and see what happens. This has been lots of help to me by eliminating lots of variables and focusing on 1 part or system at a time.

I've been thinking about a remote fuel tank too. I have a gallon can somewhere with a 1/4" brass tube and needle valve coming out the bottom. I'll try that and a gallon of new fuel.

Why would it be bad gas if it's flooding?

it may not be flooding all the carbs i have ever used "spirt" fuel out the high speed jet. isnlt that what susposed to happen. bad gas would make the mixture of a poor quality simulating a over rich mixture. you actually want any engine to run a little rich anyway.
