Is this because they don't count as spark arresters?

That all depends if you have 12" or more pipe where it has an offset and/or a 90* bend it works.

Never had a 'spark issue' with the Forrest service with any exhaust on a full size vehicle - quads or bikes they watch as they tend to have shorter and thus hotter exhaust.

Must be a state thing. Regular motor vehicles with an exhaust system aren't an issue with spark arrestors here.

quick search and doesn't exactly say Jeep but does reference street legal VWs:

I also know Naches district does check for "non-straight through" mufflers on 4x4s.

Doesn't say Jeep in any way. VW's have very short exhaust systems, therefore require a spark arrester.

According to that info, it isn't an issue with Jeeps or any other passenger vehicle except VW powered vehicles.
Around here they don't check anything but motorcycles, ATV's and the like.

I have added a few pictures to my Google page and I am looking for opinions on routing. I have the tailpipe coming out between the frame and leaf spring, rear of the axle. I think the bump stop will keep anything from hitting the tail pipe but looking for opinions on it. The last 4 pics on the page...comments needed!http://picasaweb.google.com/jzeber5/JeepExhaust#
I am also going to run the pipe along the frame and turn down flush with the rear cross member to keep it away from rocks.

    Thanks Jim,
I guess I could run it that way it see what happens. From the looks of it I think it would be pretty hard to hit it but you never know.

Picture 4 has a 45 degree bend after the rear axle. Then out the side. See picture 1.

    Thanks Ryan,
The fuel lines run up the passenger side so I am good to go. I do need to move the axle vent line away from the exhaust. I am thinking a 90* at the axle and then up from there.

Finished my exhaust today. I am really happy with how it turned out. The exhaust has bothered me since I bought it 14 years back, those mufflers were "rock magnets" waiting to get crushed. I had new mufflers installed last year and sure enough first trip out I crushed the p-side.
Both my wife's and son's cameras are dead. I'll try to get a pic up later of the "bling" talipipe!

Finally got to drive it today, sounds great. I need to get it out and make sure nothing hits. I am a little nervous about the front diff clearance around the pipe going in front of the oil pan.
Added a few pics of the tailpipe to my google account.

Any concern with the heat soaking into the master cylinder? Not sure if it would get hot enough to have any ill-effects. Just a thought.

It worked great at Hollister. Did some pretty serious twisting with no contact.

Not too concerned with it yet but I have only driven it on a trip to a local off road park the weekend after Thanksgiving cold day so it did not get very hot. It is about a 1 hour drive each way, playing around all day, brakes worked fine. I am considering going to power brakes this year so may not be an issue.

I need to figure this out on my flatfender. Does your driver manifold exit front or rear?
