The body mounts are in different locations ,the 1980 uses a 2.5" rear leaf spring.
the gas tank mounts differently. They also use different transmission crossmembers .

It is some work to make one work but it is doable.

Please realize that the '76-on Jeeps are very different from the 1972-75 models, and that the '71 and earlier Jeeps are different from all the rest too. This is why we have two forums - one for early models (through 1971) and one for intermediate Jeeps. Questions about the later Jeeps (from '76 on) are encouraged in the intermediate forum, because the later Jeeps share engines and many drivetrain components with the intermediate Jeeps.

I disagree with Shawn; if you want a short answer, no a 1972 frame will not fit on a 1980 Jeep. It will not fit at all. Almost nothing except the wheelbase is the same.

If you want to put a 1980 BODY on a 1972 frame (chassis), yes that is possible. I suspect that is the question that Shawn is answering, but that's not what the OP asked. There are so many things are different from 1972 to 1980 models that using only the frame and fitting 1980 components to it would be an ugly, time-consuming project.

    No, it will not fit.

NO , is correct for bolt on either way you go.

    I am using a 1970 tub,1980 firewall,1974 frame,1970 fenders and grill,1980 hood,and a mail jeep windsheild frame that I am narrowing.

If you have simple to moderate fabrication skills it is an easy swap. The biggest key to building any Jeep is the amount of tools that you have access to. Having a welder is pretty much a neccessity for building any frankenjeep. The best thing about building jeeps is that you can use parts from 6 differant decades to build your project.
