    Hi all,

Can anyone tell me what kind of rear axle i have? i'm trying to change the pinion oil seal on this thing and i came across a part not listed on the D44 diagrams i have. its making me question what i have. i've not been able to ID it myself. the previous owner told me it was a D44. i suppose he could be mistaken.

also, how do i get the piece pictured below off to change the oil seal? (the shiny un-filthy piece...)

I tried to get it off the way that seemed "logical" but alas, it isn't exactly the same shape as it used to be... mehh

Any help with this would be extremely appreciated!

Unless I'm mistaken, that shiny piece is the oil seal. I usually screw a sheet metal screw into 'em to get something to hold on to then use that to pull the seal.

That looks like a D44 to me.

thanks for the info. i was concerned b/c the oil seal i got from the parts store looks nothing like the one in the differential. got it out with a decent amount of coaxing (vise grips and a whole lot of elbow grease...)

Thanks again Gents!! i raise a glass to you in victory this evening!!

That first thing you see is the dust shield. The seal should be under that.
