I apolagize in advance, I'm new to the site and new to a 1961 cj5, so if I am not looking in the right place please redirect me. Here it goes... the new additon to the toy barn had been running great until last night. It just shut down wasn't getting fuel. I believe its the fuel pump, if so should I replace the with the stock mechanical type, if I can find one or convert to an electric type? Where can I find either one?

    Thanks:?

I'd replace the mechanical. Stock F134 I assume?
Walcks, Krage, and the like have them. Check the "where to get parts" thread at the top of this section.

Why the mechanical? I ask because in my '61 the PO replaced it with an electric and works fine..

Why not? It's reliable and there's already a place for it on the engine..
And cheaper and easier than installing an electric/ wiring/ etc. I'd guess. I haven't priced an electric lately.

What Patrick said, why not? Cheap, works well, don't have to source a block-off plate, etc.

Just remove and replace. Don't have to monkey with wiring, rerouting fuel lines, pressure regulators, etc.

Mechanical is much simpler and potentially safer. Unless you have some sort of oil pressure switch inline with the electric pump, the electric pump will continue to operate and pump fuel in an accident.
