IIRC it needs a little fitting, but it will work. Others have done it. You'll need to change the hold-downs to the newer style.

I mounted a '77 windshield frame to my '72. I used the later style hinges, and they bolted up with a little elbow grease. The connection on the passenger compartment side was a little trickier, since the brackets changed. I improvised a hardware solution between the windshield frame and the dash so that the windshield is held in place firmly and can still be lowered, even though I haven't done so. The '76 and later tops will supposedly mount without too much re-engineering, but I just have a bikini top on mine, so I can't speak from experience there.

As is evidenced in my picture, I haven't repainted anything yet, haha.

No it won't. 76 and 75 windshield hinges are two completely different animals you would need a windshield from a 72-75. If you are looking for replacement hinges for a 75. I can help you out.

See above. You need the hinges from the '76 windshield.

I thought that the windshield frame itself on at '76-up CJ5 was 2 inches wider than the '72-'75 CJ5's. Is this 2 inch difference strictly due to different hinges, or is the body actually 1 inch wider on each side at the attachment point?

Both windshields have the same footprint on the cowl. The cowl does not change from '75 to '76. The later windshield tilts back more, and the sides tilt in to make it narrower across the top.
