Lucky me I was just given a SM420 with Dana 18/20 adpater already on it:beer: I have read the novak installing sm420 in to a jeep (73 cj5). I will need to pick up the bell housing, and clutch fork.

My question is: If I can use the flywheel that is already on my 304 then why do I have to use the smalller clutch plate and diaphragm?

I think it has to do with with the shape/design of the other bellhousing. I'm not positive though

The fork may be hard to find. I found a bellhousing at a local wrecking yard.

Got all the adapters, bellhousing, and fork. However my new question is: Do I need to get new driveshafts?

I would bet that you definitely do. But you wont know what lengths you need untill the drivetrain is in place.

You need to run a large and strong a clutch as you can fit in the bellhousing. A small clutch may not handle the power of the 304. I'm running a small clutch, it was one I had laying around, and with a 360 it will break loose on the highway in 4th gear if I gas it. I'm going to change it out this winter to a 11" for a J truck.
