I ust got some half doors for my 73 CJ5 and I see that I can buy the lower hinges, which mount to the body but the top hinge location would be right on top of the windsheild frame andone have an idea as to where I can get the upper hinges or what have others donne to support the upper hinge?
    thanks

There are a couple of different ways to mount half doors on a CJ5/CJ6, assuming they are bestop doors. I have used both on my CJ6. The first requires that you drill a hole into the body tubthat a rod from the door slides into and use a top hinge on the body tub that would be included with a new door kit. The door also has snaps that are used to hold it to the jeep. These are typically used on pre-76 jeeps. Post 76 uses regular two hinge doors without the snaps. You can either use the hinges that are attached to the tub for regular doors or use the included hinges that come with the doors. You can use the newer style doors on the older jeeps by simply using the hinges provided by bestop. You can order all of the small parts from the Bestop website. Go the the site and look at the CJ5 supertops installation instructions. There is a parts breakdown where you can order the hinges, strikers, and anything else you need. This is of course assuming that you are using bestop doors. I think the upper hinge you are talking about is typically used for the full doors with a complete soft top. This hinge is very similar to what will be used lower on the body tub.

I just put half doors on my 72 cj5, the bottom of the door rod drops in the hole at the bottom.(just like my full doors) the top the door rod goes into a hinge that came with the doors. just screw them where you need them. be sure to mount them high even to lift the door out of the bottom hole, for removal.

yea the doors I have don't have the snaps (like my full doors, wish they did) but have the hinge pins on the outside of the door. I really didn't want to drill and put on the outside hinges onto the body but I wanted to use the holes I got in the body, bottom hole for the full doors and rig something up for the upper pin (I guess I should have thought about this more before getting them, they were cheap though). So I appreciate the comments. I may see if I can modify them to work with the existing bottom hole in the body and make something work for the top hinge, weld on some new rods etc.

Has anyone ever painted the canvis / fabric used on these types of doors?
