    Ok,

mbe this sounds wierd but I have a fiberglass tub on my 72 and I am at the point where I cut out the holes for the steering, brakes, whatnot and I had an Idea, I looked at the old tub and there is a piece of 1/8" plate on the drivers side from the factory, yes I thought about pulling it, actually I pondered the idea, then tried, long story short, no spot weld cutter, no gettin that off and it be usefull lol.

ANYWAYS, still the idea of have an extra piece of support sounds good to me, but the look, hmm, I am thinking I have to paint, and then it just will look like a patch of some sort, then I thought, a polished stainless piece would have function and look good too. I don't recall seeing such a thing, mbe there is one, mbe not. Either way I figured I'd ask you guys, anyone know of such a thing? or where someone could get a small piece to do this to for not too much.

I know I could have it fabricated at an online custom shop, but I thought how difficult would it be to do it myself? I am used to some metal work, its just flat with one bend on the lower portion. anyone out there done this?

    Ideas??

Yes, I've done the same 'plate' you describe on my '71 and it worked and looked great. I got a scap piece from a local shop that fabricates kitchen equipment and vent hoods. They just gave it to me. I cut it with a Sabre saw and did a bit of grinding here and there to clean it up, I put about a 1/2" round at the corners, and then did a wire wheel finish. I used stainless rivets to install it, available at Home Depot.

Additional grounds may likely be required...
