I recently got a proper dipstick for my 225 (thanks hickntick) and I have a couple of questions. Is there supposed to be a rubber seel or something around the dipstick just under the "stop" on the shaft? If so, does anyone know where to get one?

Is the two sections joined with rivets original?

Here is a comparison of the two dipsticks that came in the Jeep 225 according to the parts book. Top one is part number 1379886. Bottom on is 1374247. Length and width is quite different between the two.

the wide one goes directly into the block and the skinny one goes into a tube that goes into the block.

i prefer the wide/no tube setup since it is easier to get it in and out.

i believe my tube dipstick has the rivits. mine doesn't have a seal but i think that would be a good idea.

Mark: The ones that went directly into the block usually had a felt seal on them. they had a habbit of weeping a bit of oil out. The long ones that use a tube (like mine) I believe had no seal at all of any type. The tube is high enough above the oil that none is needed.. HTH.

I figure what she doesn't know won't hurt her (or me)!

I did clean them up good before placing them on the carpet.
I've also got kids, so the carpet has seen better days! That spilled juice just seems to attrach dirt and stains.

You made me go look, 2 of the 3 225's here have the long tube with a felt seal.
The spare in the garage has the short stick with a seal as well.
