Whenever I take a hard left turn gas sloshes out of my cap... is there a gasket that's supposed to be there?

Yes, they all seem to leak anyway, sort of a challenge to balance venting and leaking issues.

To add. Some times you can find one in a parts house that fit better, leak less.
Several times I have asked at gas stations to look at the collections of forgotten gas caps, but anymore they are all of the screw in style.

Just make a gasket. Cut it out of the cardboard backing of a notepad, or what ever you can think of. Don't worry about venting. There should be a hole in the middle of the cap for that.

I have the same issue. I just always try to remember not to top it off.
