Hi all. This is the first time trying the forum thing. I have a question.

    I have a 1970 cj-5, 225 v6, 4:88's in the rear ends, t-14 tranny, dana 18 transfer case.

with that here is my problem.

My speedometer was not working. I have tracked it down to the gear in the transfer case. It is worn or stripped. I looked in my trusty 4wd catalog and they list a 14 or 15 tooth gear. Mine has 22 teeth (whats left of them). Has anyone had their out? I haven't called 4wd to ask them about it. Not confident in their knowledge of these older jeep. Thats why I have come to the early cj5 group.

    thanks

I had the same problem about a year ago with my 1971 CJ-5
. I had to replace several main gears, which had shed teeth which had eaten the speedometer gear. I looked high and low to no avail. The only one who might have had one was JeepsterMan in New Jersey. Even he could not find one. If you find a source, please let me know.

I just talked to a guy on another forum. He's running a 20-tooth speedo gear set in his D18... it came from an old Scout with 4.27 axle gears...

So Scouts are another possible donor :)
