what kind of trouble am I going to get myself into when i take off the tub on my 69 CJ5? Basicly I want to put an under coat of bedliner on the bottom of the tub and clean repaint the frame.
Currently it is held onto the frame with probably 3 bolts. I just have questions about the electrical (i have to re-do all of it anyways) and the steering column.. ( need to change that too) so it really makes sense to take the tub off.

so what kind of a hassle is it going to be?

Like the Nike ad, "JUST DO IT"! Taking off the tub really is the appropriate approach since you'll be doing steering and wiring anyway. The dread anticipation is much worse than the reality. The biggest "hassle" is all the extra room the Jeep takes up while apart -- and they usually tend to stay apart longer than planned. But in the end you'll be happier with the result. By the way, while you can take the tub off by yourself it is a lot easier with some extra pairs of hands around. Good luck ....

I agree, just do it. I pulled my 67 CJ6 tub just 2 weeks ago. I had never done it before so I had the same questions you do. I had 5 guys total. It took less than 5 minutes to remove and put on a trailer. It took so long because I missed the bolt inside the tool box.

I needed 5 guys because my tub has a steel diamond plate floor in the back. It weighed a lot! 4 guys tried to lift it and it was too much. It's also a 6 so it's just bigger (and heavier) to start with.

We stored it on it's side on top of some moving pads. I was worried we might crunch a corner or something. Didn't happen. We'll see what it looks like when I go to put it back on.

    Hope that helps.

It can be done alone. I put a 2x4 across the rails and bolted through the (now gone) roll-bar holes. The engine hoist lifted the weight while I was free to make sure that everything was lifting free. Then I just rolled the chassis away. (Also removed the steering column and gearbox first!)

I totally had my interior stripped and was able to lift it off with an engine hoist and a chain running from the passenger side to the driver side. Just extend the arm of the hoist all the way out. I took my tub on and off at least 5 times by myself during my build up. There might even be pics in my webshots of it.
