I have recently rebuilt a 225 that is a little different than the engine that was in my jeep originally. The distributer clamp is totally different. On my old engine the bolt was to the drivers side at about a four oclock position and on the new one it is at about a ten oclock location. Does any one have picture of what this clamp looks like?

    Edward,
I can't 'picture' what you're describing. Do you have a Delco or Prestolite dist? Here's a couple pics for comparative value:

The above pic is a Prestolite clamp ('71) & was taken while leaning over the driver's side fender. The clamp looks like a straight piece of metal with that bolt thru the middle.

This pic is a Delco clamp, and was taken w/ engine out looking straight down on top of it (as if you're standing up from the driver's seat looking down/fwd.). Both clamps are oriented the same, and the bolt holes are in the same spot on the timing cover.

I've noticed that the Delco clamp won't work on a Prestolite dist. unless some minor grinding is done. HTH!

Thanks guys, It seems I have the prestolite clamp with a delco distibuter. It worked on the old configuration but it will not work now. I will try to find one and if I cant I'll make it. Your pictures helped.

    Thanks again

Ed: I have seen some generic dist. clamps in the FLAPS. Different types for diff. models. You might want to check there.

I had to buy one for my 231 w. Delco HEI from the Buick dealer when I lost it. It is just a 3/8" bolt, with a really big thick washer that is fixed to the top, so it doesnt fall off when you put it on. They had to order it, and it was about $6. I use a 9/16" deep well with a 1/4" drive to put it on. It is a pain in the butt, and my distributor rotor plate came unstamped from the shaft a while ago, so I was messing around with it a bunch until I figured that out, so I have some experience in this area.

Tell them you need a distributor bolt for a 1980 Buick Regal, 231, 2 barrel, and that should get it for you. A generic clamp will not work, I bought one, tried it, got out the sawzall, tried it again, still couldnt make it fit. I tried to make a bolt like the one I had with several washers, and couldnt get my big fingers in there to tighten it down to save my life. I hate to spend $6 on a single bolt, but in this case it was about the only solution.
