Hi all! I have been studying converting my '70 CJ5 Odd Fire 225 to HEI. I have ordered the HEI parts for a '75 Odd Fire V6 distributor. I keep reading about possible modifications that my have to be made to make this work. I imagine that this means some grinding.

Could someone post up some pics of what all "mods" need to be done to make the change?

Grind the corner of the intake to clear the distributor, install a button head bolt in the corner, and drop in the distributor. Bypass the ballast resistor.

    Yes.
Or, you can use your stock (if it's a Delco) distributor and install a Pertronix unit eliminating the points, and a "performance" ignition coil, and end up with the same basic results...

I think that I am ready for the swap, all I need is the button head bolt. I couldn't find anything in town that was even close.

Okay, so I finally finished grinding off the intake far enough that the distributor and cap will clear the intake and then installed the button head bolt. I still have a couple of questions:

1.) Is it normal to have to grind down the button head bolt as well? I have ground it down about as far as I feel comfortable and still will not clear the cap. Can someone who has done this mod post a pic of what yours looks like?

2.) It looks like once I get the distributor installed that I won't have much room at all to adjust the timing. The two dist cap screws on the driver's side touch the front plenum on the intake and the power steering bracket. The distributor will only point straight ahead. Is this the same for everyone and if so, does it work?

Scout - It's been a long time since I did this but I had the same issue. I ground it down as far as I was comfortable with but it still wouldn't fit. So I called a buddy and he said "it will fit, just keep grinding". He was right.

If your vacuum canister hose connection is hitting the fan you can get a different canister at NAPA.

I have a couple of how-to articles that I downloaded from the net that detail how to convert the even-fire to odd-fire and also rebuild and tune. I do not know how to attach the files here. If you contact me I can email them to you. I think they will answer all your questions. (pictures too!)

I have the HEI in and have her running but I think that I have a sick cylinder on the right bank. I am out of time to mess with it any more today. I will try to troubleshoot the right bank tomorrow. Thank you all gentlemen.
