It looks like the P.O. bought a new parking brake backing plate, drum, and rear output yoke. Problem is, there are no studs for the rear driveshaft flange to bolt to...

My question is, are these suppose to be swedged studs with a flange on them (ala wheel studs), or are they studs with threads like the ones found in the block or the head? I see no threads in the yoke, and none in the brake drum, although both appear to be thick enough that they could be tapped.

just regular hex head bolts, with the heads on the drum side as far as I know.
    nothing special about them.
not having a drum in front of me, would the hex head be captured by the drum, a recess or some other means to keep the head from turning ?

yeah they are caught by a threaded flange that holds the drum assembly and backing plate to the transfer case.

Check the driveshaft flange for the ridge that keep the bolt heads from spinning, if they're damaged the bolt heads will spin (no way to keep them from spinning- no access) when installing the drum/ yoke assy. Replace if necessary

Thanks guys! There's a recessed area (~1/8") on the inside of the drum that the bolt heads would likely strike to keep them from spinning. I'll give it a test on the workbench before assembling it on the t-case.

All drive train bolts I've seen, including those, are fine thread. Maybe even hardened a bit???? Call one of the old jeep parts outlets. Lots of old timers in this country that know those little details.
