I just picked up a free drivetrain! Now how do I find the year?

Here's the numbers from the back of the engine:

    J7 6
    991503

And while we're at it, heres' the number from the back of the Borg Warner trnsfer case:

    13-05-107-903

Help! I don't know what I"m doing! :) There's a place to find this all online, right?

And after looking at pictures of all (4) jeep automatic transmissions I"m familiar with, I don't think the trans on this engine is a jeep trans. Where do you find numbers on a trans? The bell housing end is concave, or 'notched,' not ending in a 'point' like on jeep trans's i've seen.

An automatic? Jeep used a Borg-Warner automatic in the early Wagoneer. It has an iron case and a separate aluminum bellhousing.

A few details about the engine would be helpful, ie how many cylinders? Inline? Overhead valve?

Yep, we need more info. Jeep I assume? Model? engine configuration? Cylinders?

Yes, it seems i forgot to write in more details. haste.....

The engine is a Buick oddfire v6, which I assume came out of a jeep, but I can't know for certain until I see the flywheel, or unless the numbers tell me that it came from a jeep.
Anyway, I don't have anything beside phone pics right now, so here's the rest of the layout: automatic transmission, which i have no info on yet.
borg warner t-case, with both output shafts ON THE SIDE, like my old dana 18. Does that help? It would simplify my job if this were a complete original drivetrain.....

borg warner t-case with offset rear output. Quadra trac maybe?

If its a q-trac, then its possible that the trand is a TurboHydramatic 400.

    http://jeeptech.com/trans/th400.html

according to that, the late 60's TH400's used a Bucik/old/ponitac/caddy bell pattern. That could have ben transplanted on to an Odd fire.

    doc,

I think you're dead on. I'm certain my tcase is a quadratrac, and I'm told the trans came out of a wagoneer, and since TH400s went in full size jeeps, that's probably right.
Thanks guys, I'm encouraged. Rebuilt, this'll be a solid setup.
