need axle gear ratio advice

I am trying to decide the best gear ratio for my Jeepster. I have a stock V6 with the TH400 transmission, 3.31 gears and 31" tires. I had swapped in a rear axle with 3.73 gears with only a mild improvement around town. I don't really do any freeway driving.
I have a Dana 30 with 4.27 gears that I am preparing to install in the front and so could match the rear to it. According to the online speed calculators, I would be turning 2300 rpm @ 50 mph. Not sure the best operating rpm's for the V6.
Does anyone have experience running the 4.27 gears with a similar set-up that could provide me with any positive and negative impressions?
    Thanks for the help.

I kinda went through the same thing with my CJ-3B,first I used the 5.38:1 gears and then went to the 3.73:1 and that wasnt right either. I ended up with the 4.27:1 and like it a lot.My 3-B has a stock V-6 and 33" tires. I dont know my RPM's because I dont run a tachometer but for all around mixed driving the 4.27:1 works great. I never get on the highway with it,only the trails, back roads and biways topping out at around 45 to 50 MPH.The 3-B is lighter than the Jeepster and the tires are slightly bigger but I hope this helps.

Thanks for the info OzFin. From what I can tell, the 33" tires will lower your engine speed a little over 100 rpm @ 50 mph compared to 31" tires.
