Hey guys im wanting to put some seat belts in. Got any ideas of how i can do it with the factory tank in. Also i do not have a full cage in. Just something simple like lap belts.

Lap belts can be done. Do you at least have a roll bar? I'm no expert but IIRC the rule is no cage/bar no seat belts.

Seat belts are easy. drivers side left belt bolts thru the fenderwell, r/h side just to the left of center in the rear floor area just behind the floor riser. Passenger is pretty much the same. http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Lift-Latch-Lap-Belt,7344.html

Here's belts and they also have a bolt kit. These are 'ol skool type belts.

    My $.02-

There's a reason shoulder belts replaced lap belts, it has to do with being impaled by steering columns and/or your upper body being thrown sideways outside the confines of the tub during a roll . A shoulder belt really isn't any harder to do than a lap belt.

    My other $.02 -

A roll bar is false security for anything other than a nice slow sideways tip on the trail, if you're counting on it to do you any good on the highway or on a end flip on the trail you could be in for a really nasty disappointment.

Yes i know what you mean. I am just looking for a tad bit of guidance and ideas. I use to be "the crazy one" out on the trails, not completely insane or stupid but i was the one that would try almost anything. I will have my wife and 7 yr son in the jeep so i will be toning it down ALOT. Theres nothing wrong with cruising some trails and hitting some mud holes and knowing what the jeep will do and not do. Its 60 yrs old i dont to be doing huge off camber stuff just easy trail rides.
How ever i do expect the rollbar to help in a small on its side tip. NOT a huge down a cliff roll.

How big of a plate should i put on the underside of the body for mounting belts?

O.K., fair enough, you obviously are going into this with your eyes open so no more preachy stuff :)

The plates the factory put on later models for belt anchors are only a few inches square, as far as I can tell the same 18 guage sheet metal as the tub. A fender washer is probably all you need, if you hit hard enough to rip that through the floor you probably aren't going to come out of it in one piece anyhow :(.

Here's what I'm running in my Jeep: http://www.pyrotect.com/home.php?cat=8
5 point racing harness. I've been on my side once or twice, plus when bouncing around it's nice to have the shoulder straps. $77.00 each, plus hardware (eyebolts with backing plates). It's easy enough to get a bar welded to your rollbar for the shoulder harness to mount too.
