My new project

I'm about to begin another adventure---money and/or wife permitting.
1960 CJ5 134 F-head, T-90, D-18. Believe it or not with a new carb, coil and fuel pump it started and ran smoothly, even at idle. I don't know know how long it sat out behind the PO's house but I bought it from the wife for $400.00. I think the husband died several years earlier and the last registration was 1980.
The radiator was full, TC oil was good, there was some evidence of water in the trans. but it looks fixable.
No brakes, of course, but it has a Koenig PTO winch and a Koenig full metal top that I may do away with.
There is also some sort of vacume assist setup for the brakes.
My thoughts are to go back stock because of parts I have on hand.
Any suggestions before I start or during the process are appreciated.

Nice Starting point.
Take Lot of Pic's and bag everything and lable the bolts as you pull it apart it helps a bunch when you go to put it back together you will know the bolt size even if your replacing. The parts that your replacing keep it in tell you have the new one in hand and are ready to replace it.

I've got my rotisserie essentially complete. I have reworked the tool box and the tailgate. I have taken the front cap off and plan to pull the tub next.

Repairing my windshield also and I might just have to splice the heater vent area with new sheet metal like yours...

 

Looks like a good start. youve got a long road ahead of you, but it appears you wont have any trouble fixing the damage.

I took the Hydrovac apart and am waiting on a repair kit

Finally lifted the body from the chassis

Did you use JB weld to fix the wheel? Mine has those cracks also and I need to do that. Project looks great!

I am using J-B Weld on the steeringwheel.

Cleaned and refurbished the heater.




The Hydrovac has been rebuilt.




The PTO winch required a trip to the machine shop to get the shaft straightened.

I started on the tub today and the same question kept coming to mind---"HOW DO THESE THINGS NOT JUST FALL APART" ???

I drilled out the spot welds with a 3/8 bit, cut out the rusted areas, welded in new pieces, and finished.

 

I finally got around to cutting the floor panels and had a metal fabricating company bend me some 16ga. hat channel. Six feet of the wide and ten feet of the narrow for $35.00.

I like the method you used to get the tub off. I usually use our tractor, but if I could make something like you have I could just lift it straight up and not damage tubs further.
