I tried to replace the Oil sensor and the temperature sensor for the V6. O'Reiley's gave me two sensors but I don't know if they are the right ones.

The Oil sensor has the same treads and bolt length as the original, but the replacement they gave me is a lot bigger. Does this matter?

The temperature sensor is not even close. The original has a very large diameter bolt, and the replacement is....well....way smaller. I saw where someone had a reducer in their manifold. Mine mounts right behind the thermostat in the intake manifold.

Here is a pic of the originals of both, the replacements and the boxes with part numbers they came in. The originals are on the left of each set.

The oil pressure sensor is basically a pressure switch. Pressure above 10-12 lbs will open the switch and turning off the lite. The temp sensor however is a resistive device and should be correlated with your temp gauge. Physical size wont matter.

Thanks Walt. If it is correlated to the temperature gauge, and we all have the same motor and gauge, what is the replacement sensor?

Does anyone know of a part # or who has a temperature sensor that will fit a 225 v6?

I just bought a the replacement temp/pressure switches from o'riellys and they were a perfect match. I still have the receipt at home and can look tonight to see what the PNs were.

Couldn't find receipt for pressure sensor from O'reillys but I was able to find my receipts for the temp sensor from there and the temp AND pressure from advance autoparts. Advance autoparts was a little cheaper on both parts for same name brand. Here are the part numbers:

    Advance Autoparts
    Temp Sender Unit for 225 - WT125 -$8.89
    Oil Pressure Switch for 225 - S4014 - $4.29

    O-Reilly
    Temp sender unit for 225 - WT125 - $9.99

Seems like O-rielly's showed me a couple of smaller one prior to me getting the correct ones from Advance autoparts. The problem I always seem to run into is the "renegade" parts person who seems to think that have commandeered a 225 out of a Skylark or something and put it in my jeep. When this assumption happens, I typically catch it and make them select a '66 CJ5 jeep, then 225 for the motor and VIOLA! Correct parts start showing up in the system. This happens almost everytime I go to buy something for the motor. Let me know if you have any trouble finding anything else for this motor. I just rebuilt mine and am in the process of getting all of the little parts rounded back up. Best of luck.

Thanks for looking Ben, but I have both of those. I think the oil pressure switch will work, but the Temperature sending unit will not work. I have the WT125 and it is pictured in the link above. The WT125 is way too small. I have been to Napa, Autozone, O'Reiley's, Bumper to Bumper, ABC Auto, and Advance Auto and they all show the WT125, or its counterpart. Do you have the size reducer in your manifold? The hole is almost 1 inch wide. Here is a pic of hole measured

Great thinking!!!I went out this morning and looked and I do have a threaded insert knocking the thread size down from what you measured to the threads on the WT125. I would have taken a picture but I cannot seem to locate my camera. Whatever is in ther looks to be stock on mine. Let me know if you end up needing a picture and I'll see what I can do. By the way, could you tell me were you got your fan you are running. I am looking to replace the old (5?) blade fan that I have that has seen better days.
    Thanks,

Just caught another thing. My intake has the tem sensor facing the front. I have noticed that some dauntless V6s had the side mount and some had the front mount. I wonder what the difference was between the two and if this could help answer the question "why are you missing your spacer"? Hopefully someone reading this can shed some light on the subject.

On my 66 225 the temp sensor hole is in the front also. The cast hole size is like yours (about 3/4") but it has a factory (flush) reducer installed and the sensor is the smaller size WT125. Did you look at your old sensor to see if the insert reducer was still onit?

My fan is "O-rig-inal" It was on the engine when it was new and it is what I cleaned up and put back on.

As far as the Temp sending unit-I am at a complete loss.

The bigger question is, "why my engine was fitted with a sensor that fits the hole and why some had reducers with the WT125 equivalent put in at the factory. The only thing I can think of is to try and find a reducer and use the WT125. I talked to my dad and he said the GPW/MB 4 cyl hurricane had reducers on them. His garage is the Arlington National Cemetary for Ford GPW's and I may send him on a hunt to find one of the reducers. MAYBE I'll get lucky he'll find one and it will fit. Im not that lucky though.

One other thought may be the date of manufacture for this jeep. It was made in October of 69, but a 70 model. I wonder if this may be one of the suttle differences in these CJ-5A's as I found out they are called; kind of like the hood mounted reflectors and the fender mounted ones (minde had the hood mounted ones)

If anyone can shed some light on this subject.....PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just put the sensor on a wire wheel. It is definately one piece. I put it in a vise and tried to pull out the brass center part, but I almost twisted it off. Even if it did come out, I don't see how one would screw it in. The nut part is on the out side. Take a look. Oh I did find some #'s on it. One of the flat sides of the nut part says

    05
    257(degrees symbol) F

    and the other side says

    362-EF

When I got my engine back from the rebuilder, I was missing my old temp sensor and my old oil switch. I told them not to worry about them b/c I was installing new units. I am positive that they did not put the reducer in and I did not get a good look at it before I took it to them. If you are looking for a reducer or simply an explanation, I woul give Harry Sheets a call at midwest willys. He has been a great source of parts and general information throughout our build. You can reach him at (765) 362-2247. Looking at some old threads (no pun intended) on this site, I came across some interesting info. 1) apparently the location changed from the fron to the sides sometime around '70-'71, and maybe between '66 and you '70 they switched to a smaller thread unit and therefore had to put in an adapter at the factory 2) One person noted that their factory snesor was a "plug" type with a boot and not just a connector used on a threaded end. This is the way I remember mine being before I changed it out. I think I would venture to say that the new style of sensor is simply a different thread size and different connector.

For what it's worth, when I did my 2A rebuild with the 225 my new temp. gauge came with an assortment of reducers in order to make a proper fit of the sensor.

    I FOUND ONE FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A guy at the local ABC distribution center went in the back with my temperature sending unit and found one with that large diameter threads.

The quest is FINALLY over. I hope this helps someone down the road.

Here is a picture of the repacement. I will post the part # later, but it comes off a 1976 chevrolet 6 cylinder pickup. The only difference is this one had a spade terminal as opposed to the post terminal. That won't be a problem though; I can switch out the connector on the wiring harness

Meltdown..I too have a large diameter temp sensor on the 225 Jeepster. It looks the same as your old unit. Mine is located at the rear on the manifold next to the firewall though. Please let me know th P/N and source when you get a chance...thanks mate.

Today is your lucky day. This is the first time I can help someone out on this site.

Unfortunately, I can't seem to find the box the sensor came in(I now have a lot of little boxes laying accumulated), but here is a picture of it. I would take that to the part store and show them. They said it comes out of somewhere around a 1978 Chevy pickup. Their books use a picture reference. I would also take that old one because you can't tell the scale in the pics to match up the thread size. I got it from ABC auto, but I am sure others have it as well.

The only difference is the connection type(spade vs. post) Sorry I don't have the part #, but having a picture will be 90% of the work, hopefully. Let me know if you find it. If you can't, I'll see if I can narrow down which box it came in.
