Anyone have a pic of how to mount a passenger side mirror on my 71'? I got it from 4WD hardware. I heard they mount to the windshield frame and you look through the window to use it. Is that right?
    Thanks,
    Jeff Z

Not sure what you mean. It should mount to the windshield hinge and you look out the side like any other car.

You probably won't find directions but I installed one on mine.

Just take the hinge off the jeep and use the mirror bracket to mark the 4 holes.

I'm pretty sure the bolts provided with the mirror are 1/4-20 so just take one of the bolts to the hardware store and tell them you want a bit and a tap for that bolt.

Actually, I'd get two taps because sometimes they break.

Then just carefully drill the 4 holes and tap them really slowly screwing the tap into the hole and when it starts to get tight back it out to clean out the metal from the tap. It's easy but you can screw it up if you get too forceful with the tap.

I don't think so on a Jeep Vanguard.

The instructions that came with the mirror set I bought say to position the mirror head so that you view the mirror head by looking across the jeep through the windshield @ the mirror.

Actually, it's almost impossible to position the mirror any other way and still use it.

At least it was for me.

Looking out the side you run into the wide expanses of vinyl from your soft top door...

So Yeah - Johns right. Most passenger side mirrors I see are positioned up ahead of the w/s so you can see it through the glass...

FWIW...if I had it to do over again, I wouldn't have put the pass side on there.

    1. It's not original to the jeep

    2. I've yet to be able to position it so I can see out of it. It's basically just there for looks.

I kinda wish I'd just replaced the mirror in the tall rectangular mirror that was on it originally.

John: I find the same thing. It's funny, when I took the test drive in my Jeep from the PO, he said no one can ever seem to see anything out of it no matter how it's adjusted. :?

Now, if only someone made a "convex" mirror, maybe we could use it. Haven't found one yet.

I don't think it's the mirror material that's the problem. I've just never been able to get it set just right.

It's a two man job and Tyler just get's confused when I tell him

Up a little....no left...no the other left...awe just forget it and get in...I'll just turn around and look.

Hmm. I thought I've seen them mounted just like the drivers side on lower hinge mount.

Yeah they mount the same but you view them differently.

Mike: That would be great. I've looked and searched, but found nothing in the standard square type that most of us have.

I've got a standard type on the passenger side. The PO had heated and rotated the tube so it's
useable as a side mirror. You can look @ it thru the passenger door opening. Not the windshield.
It's difficult to use when the top and doors are on. But w/ the bikini top it's fine. If anyone needs
    a picture I'll shoot one.

I think the first year for a right hand mirror was in 1972. It was made to look through the windshield to see back. The major problem is that you can't tow anything wider than the Jeep....and everything is wider than the Jeep!! That's why I made the mirror bar that goes all the way across the windshield, you can slide the mirror out to where you can see behind you....and the mirror stays steady!! You can also remove them while "Jeeping" to keep from breaking them. ( I know I didn't do this at Big Bear). Jim's (jpflat2a) Jeep has one also. Prior to 1972....you just mounted a left mirror arm on the right side. Good Luck!! Glenn
