Just rebuilt the carb. on my :v6: It now starts right up and seems to idle fine which is great but its just not quite right yet. When I hit the throttle it chokes out. and when I'm driving it around it just seams to not have the punch it should. Does this mean I have a problem with the accelerator pump? When I was rebuilding it the little ball fell out of where the accelerator pump goes. I wasn't 100% sure where it went back, but I pit it in the little hole that attaches to the full bowl. I figured when the accelerator pump lifted up it would momentarily pull the ball up ( working as a check valve). I'm thinking it might be running rich as well but not sure. This is my first carb rebuild, I need a few pointers on what to look for and how to tune it. Thanks all.

I checked the float level when rebuilding, it looked good as far as I could tell.

Needle screws I ran them in all the way and then backed them out 2 full turns.

There are some folks on here that are very knowledgeable about carbs, one of them will probably be able to fix ya right up.

But I suspect that is gonna be hard to do, unless one of them is psychic too.

    Umm, what kind of carb?

I ran in to a similiar problem when I rebuilt my 2G. It was a bad stumble on takeoff.

After much (frustrating) research it seemed like it had to be a vacuum leak but I was unable to find one. I checked and recheck the accel pump and float settings and other things.

Anyway, it cured itself and runs perfect now. I still don't know what the problem was.

If you find out what your trouble is please post.

Check ball goes in then bottom of the acc. pump well. And yes, it'll stumble without it...

hard to tell ,could be vac leak at intake to carb with motor running spray wd40 or carb cleaner around carb to check for a stumble rpm should really only change if sprayed into throtlle shaft, screws to far out, turn in till engine rpm decreases then back out 1/4 turn works for me.ball or rubber on accel . pump problems .you could mess with the linkage you can bend the acc.rod of 2g to adjust the pump alittle in the sheet from the kit it should say how much it should be .and check the choke is open and operating properly.good luck .......... this message will self destruct in 60 seconds

David Brown sent this to me, I've not gotten it posted yet.

There's no markings or indication of a copyright on it so I'll guess it's fair game until told otherwise.

I didn't leave it out, there was a hole that it fit nicely in (that's a passage to the fuel bowl). I had to remove the spring to drop it in and then the spring holds it form coming out. There was also another orifice down there but the ball didn't fit in it, just sorta sat on top of it. not sure were it went to. did I put it in the right place?

I still dont get how to adjust the two screws at the bottom of the carb. When I rebuilt mine, I turned those two screws in and then backed them out, I think two turns. Is that writep talking about turning those two screws out four turns then? It runs pretty good but stumbles when I try and take off and then it catches up and takes off. To set my idle do I use the screw on the on the linkage?

I use a vacuum gage to set those two screws. As close to 20" hg as I can get.

Manifold vacuum not port. So below the throttle plates.

Plenty of info here from past discussions.

Yes, it makes a huge difference in how the vehicle runs. :)
