The dipstick tube on my '75 CJ5 304 V8 broke off flush with the engine block. I was thinking of a slide hammer with a screw on the end to thread into the tube. Any better suggestions on how to remove the piece in the block would be appreciated.

Thanks! One of those methods should work nicely.

That's also how I ended up asking the question. I just ordered a new dipstick tube and bracket from BJ's Off Road. Here's something else I learned: don't buy used headers of unknown brand on Ebay. Had to wail on them with a hammer to clear the steering shaft and now I have to cut pieces out of the mounting flange so I can use a socket on the spark plugs. I should have known better :(
