couldn't find a answer for this one. Just throwing it out there to make sure...

working on converting from 10"-11" on the front of the 68.

I've got backing plates from a chevy pickup if I remember correctly. I know I want the Jeep 11" drums, but what about the shoes and hardware? Do I want to get the right chevy hardware and shoes? or does it not matter and I can get the hardware for a jeep from the same year as the drums I buy?

How about the wheel cylinders? does it matter for them either?

I can't give you the correct answer, but the wheel cylinders will have to match the mounting on the backing plate for sure. Another thing is the shoes and attaching and pivot points will have to match, i. e. springs, etc. Width of shoes and drums matching too.

I converted to 11 Wagoneer brakes on the D25 I had. The setup just bolted on after removing the hub to get top the backing plate. Any 5 lug Wagoneer will work. I think they go from the early `69's to the early `70's. These parts cost me about $30.00 per axel, front and rear. I got the flexable brake lines also but, they rubbed on the inside of the rim, wearing a hole in the line. So, I broked down and bought so steel braided lines

I just installed 11' brakes on the front. They were taken on a mail delivery jeep. Good thing is that the gov't services/maintains these things, so the hardware kit and pads were good as is. The only thing I had to get new was flex brake hoses. I used hoses from a '75 jeep and they work great (no rubbing, etc).

    Good luck

termin8ed if you're interested, I think I have Jeep 11" backing plates (with wheel cylinders still attached, drums and maybe some of the hardware out in the shed somewhere. I could let it all go for maybe $20 and shipping?

Thanks guys. I took a peek at mine again yesterday and I have all the hardware and stuff attached still. So if nothing else I can take one in and compare parts if I have to. Maybe I'll just try getting A drum and see how it fits.

Hey Jerry, Guess who told Jon that that mail jeep had 11" drums on it. ;) Good to know you were able to reuse everything on it.

I have enough to do right now with staining the house and trying to get the turn signals wired up on my 68. I don't really want to take apart the brakes on it and run into problems. I do have an extra front axle that I could put the brakes together on and see how it will go. That way everything is lined up correctly, and If I run into a non-compatable problem, I can still drive the jeep.

I think next week I'll start on that.

    Brian,
I had forgot that you and John were out parts hunting at that guys house. At some point I'm going to attack the rear brakes. Chris Peter's from CO is sending some axle shafts so I can get the 4 wheel drive working, so that my next priority. I also have to do the turn signal light thing.

Hay, I'm also looking for a good used steering column and wheel. My jeep currently has a pontiac column and wheel (yuck) that I want to replace.

You, John and I need to go for a jeep ride somewhere.

All of my 11" stuff was the same as off of a 71 CJ5. This included drums and pads--Rob
