Hi. I'm having a hard time getting my Jeep running right, so I'm hoping someone can talk me through this...

I have a 1972 CJ5 with the factory 304V8, factory carb, and it's been converted to electronic ignition.

My jeep has always idled really well since I bought it but has had a number of ailments when you get into the throttle. For starters, whenever you gave it a lot of gas all at once it would instantly bog and try to die. When you slowly rev it up it would run well (and fast) up to almost 3/4 throttle then it starts to miss like it has hit a rev limiter. It will go faster at a little over half throttle than it will at full throttle.

I knew for a fact I had carb troubles. Beyond the other obvious symptoms it was getting way to much gas, then the carb started leaking on the intake manifold. I took it to a local shop and they rebuilt the stocker. This solved my stalling/ driveability problem. However it is still acting like it has hit a rev limiter, but only at full throttle. If I slowly ramp up the rpm, half-3/4ths throttle or so, it will run faster and faster clear to redline. (which, as far as my purposes go, is about 4k rpm) Runs great. Give it full throttle though, and it hits my imaginary rev limiter at 1500 rpm.

Based on this, and what limited knowledge I have, I suspect that the vaccuum advance is all messed up on my distributor, that when the engine goes full throttle and the vaccuum goes away, the distributor sets the timing wrong. I have no idea how to fix or adjust this, but this is what I think is happening. Having already spent my disposable income for the next while, I'm not taking it back to the shop. So I was hoping someone here could guide me on how to set my advance, keeping in mind I have almost no idea what I'm doing at all.

I can tell you the ignition box on the firewall is by "Standard" and the distributor itself, near the vacuum port, says "Motocraft".

I've never tried posting pics before, but I took several, so I'll attempt to get them up.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me :)
