Did the bench seats have fancier upholstery than the standard bucket seats? I have the original upholstery for my 1963 CJ5 bucket seats to use as a pattern. I also have the bench seats from a parts jeep (unknown year). I would like to use the bench seat when I restore the Jeep. Would it be correct to match the color and the pleat pattern on the bench seat to the 1963 bucket seats when I have the bench seat reupholstered?

Can't answer for sure but there were a couple of NOS replacement cover sets that came up on EBay a few months back for both bench & bucket seats, the patterns matched between them and thats the same pattern as I have on my seats.

My rusty memory ... I know that the bench seat from '76 on had pleats like the buckets. Same vinyl colors and texture, but the edges of the seats did not have the big bolsters like the buckets have.

Before '76, I part ways with Howard - I'm guessing those covers he saw were for the later seats. What I remember - the intermediate bench seats were very plain. No pleating at all. Same color and texture of vinyl, but a solid, flat panel on the seating surface. There may not have even been cording around the sewn perimeter of the seat.

You may be right for 64-75 seats Tim but the OP was asking about '63 seats, these should be the same "one piece design" as my seats which were used from '55 to '64, after that they went with a different design for the buckets- the "Bostrom" seats. the '67 parts manual lists a p/n for an "adjustable" bench seat that does not show up in the '59 manual, I'm guessing that when the Bostrom seats came out they also brought out an adjustable bench seat as well.

However the bench seat covers I saw on ebay quite definitely matched the stitching & vinyl pattern on my seats-

The same seller had a set for the buckets as well, same colour/stitching/vinyl as the bench seat covers.

    I got out-bid :(.

    And I bid A Lot.

Thanks everyone for the info. I have one final bench seat question. The bench seat I have is adjustable and the back folds down. It looks identical to the black seats in the pics that Vintage Jeeper posted from his 1964 Jeep. Would that type seat still be correct for a 1963?

My 1970 bench seat is exactly the same as the fronts only wider. No difference in the pattern. Do you have any suppliers identified for the vinyl? I'm trying to find the pinstripe vinyl for my seats.
