'80 cj5,,,,restoring but keeping ORIGINAL as much as possible.
the body....is completely stock and original
BUT,,,,I need more clearance for my tires !
should I cut the existing fenders or should I replace with some aftermarket tube fenders
    and store the originals ?
is it worth anything ? to keep this make and model original ? and store the original fenders?
or should I jus cut em up and sometime down the road, whenever, replace with aftermarket 'originals'

what do you guys think ????

It's you Jeep, do whatever you want to do. Just keep in mind that original sheetmetal is getting hard to find. If you want to hack something up, I would think cutting up aftermarket stuff would be preferrable.

I would do a small BL before I would cut the fenders if you want to keep the jeep as original as possible. BLs can be removed modifying fenders can't.

Do a 2.5" spring lift. It'll look better than cut up sheet metal and it'd be easy to put back stock.

Actually - are the springs new? If not it's possible that fresh OE height springs would be enough.

How big of tire are you running anyway? 31's fit with no lift - much bigger than that and it won't look original.

Maybe the most obvious route is smaller tires?
