I'm having trouble finding any info on the solex cab. I can't even find a break down. For some reason I cannot roll the choke all the way off when completely warm. I opened what I assume to be the mixture all the way but still can't take the choke come all the way off (to stop the whistling sound). Will a Carter YF work in place of the Solex or original Carter?

Any info, suggestions, or tricks would be much appreciated.

    Thanks

My solex works great. Are you sure you are moving the choke lever to the correct position to turn it off? Only adjustment is the idle and mixture. To adjust mixture warm engine, turn choke off, close mixture then open util you reach highest idle then stop. Idle is around 600 rpm. Maybe it's defective.

Sounds like it is running very lean, as if it has a vacuum leak.

    New stuff:
plugs, wires, coil, points, condeser, cap, rotor, timing adjusted and correct.

I can't get the choke all the way off to do anything. I agree with the vacuum leak, but it does not die while trying to start cold. Also, where would a vacuum leak be? It doesn't appear to me to be too many options for a leak, like a PCV or the like.

The plugs are prolly fouled from running with the start lever on.
Check the base to intake gasket for the vac leak.
