Fuel Tank Sending Unit

I purchased a polyethylene gas tank for my 1975 a couple of years ago. Unfortunately, the float and tube are too long to fit into the tank. Any recommendations? Also, the only ones I have been able to find have a return tube at the top. The original only has the single fuel line connection.

I just got done with this same project. My best suggestion is to purchase another sending unit from MTS (29.00). I just plugged the return line, along with the vapor lines. If not possible, try cutting and bending. Also, good luck reinstalling the skid plate. We used two pieces of 1" 10ga steel with nuts welded on to be allow fasteners to work. Or you can jack the body.
