I'm restoring a 1971 CJ5 with a V6. I'm trying to hunt down shifter boots for a Dana model 18 single leverand a Warn overdrive. I've been taught to look with my eyes and not my mouth (keyboard) but I haven't had any luck on my own. This is my first post so please be kind. I've enjoyed observing this site for a while and compliment the members. Thanks in advance, Bill in Denver.

    Bill,
The '71 I have didn't have a boot for the T-case lever from the factory or for the Warn OD that my dad installed in '72. The OD lever did/ does have a "dust" cover that goes between the large tranny cover and the shifter housing cover...not much more than a thin piece of rubber, slit to accomodate the shifter. HTH! OBTW, welcome from Chesapeake, VA.

Bill - talk to MileHi up there - they used to carry boots and would know what your talking about.

Nothing stock for the OD - it'll be an after market.

The 71 single lever did not have a boot per se, it was flat piece of rubber with a hole cut in it, mine was still there when I got my Jeep 16 years ago, it finally fell apart about 5 years ago or so.

Mike's right, just a flat piece of rubber w/ an elliptical piece of sheet metal holding it down. For a good professional look, cut a piece of rubber to match the metal and picture where the shifter comes out. Use a gasket hole punch of the correct size to cut your hole. I made on OD boot by sewing up a cone from an old black vinyl tote I was throwing out. Came out real nice. Sometimes you just have to be imaginative.:v6:

i think i used a brake or clutch pedal firewall boot from a junk yard chevy van or somthing. It looks like a regular ribbed shift boot but small. I cut out my own ring out of a piece of sheetmetal

I cut the thumb out of a leather work glove that was to stiff to wear. Cut around the base of the thumb finger, using the suronding leather to scew down to the floor, cut the tip out of the thumb. I like the way it looks and works.

Anthony, I have a clutch rod boot thru the firewall in my '75 made by the same method. Works great, and it has held up much longer than the lousy rubber in the reproduction shift and TC boots I picked up aftermarket.

It must be the Northern California water, or maybe you have a pit bull that loves leather gloves as much as mine... I have a lifetime supply, she steals them from the neighbors, methinks.
